Living Ink

Living Ink is a biotechnology company transforming waste-algae material into a bio-based carbon black, UV stable and has the potential to be carbon negative. This algae black is a replacement for petrochemical carbon black, with reduced CO2 emissions in comparison to the latter.

Turning Biomass Waste Into Value

The Fashion for Good team interviewed Devon Murrie, Director of Partnerships & Strategic Growth at Living Ink, to explore their story, technology, challenges, and successes, highlighting innovations that drive industry change and lead the path to scale.

Why Fashion for Good is working with Living Ink

The processing stage can be lengthy, technically complex and consumes a huge amount of water, chemistry and energy, so optimising and finding new innovations such as Living Ink is crucially important. Shifting from traditional petrochemical sources to biobased algae alternatives provides the industry with opportunities to reduce the impact of carbon black dyeing.
