Ecovative utilises mycelium and agricultural waste streams to develop products with applications in food, fashion, beauty and other industries. The Ecovative Mycelium Foundry is built on an extensive library of fungal strains to test and perfect new mycological materials. Strains selected from this process go through their proprietary AirMycelium™ process to grow unique bio-materials fine-tuned for specific applications e.g. as leather alternatives.

A significant portion of a material’s environmental footprint is shaped by how its raw inputs are cultivated, extracted, and processed into final products, making this a key area for innovation. Biobased leather alternatives provide a promising solution for the fashion industry, addressing the environmental concerns of conventional leather tanning, which often involves harmful chemicals, and the reliance on fossil fuels for synthetic leathers. Ecovative, through its collaboration with Fashion for Good, is already offering an innovative, lower-impact alternative to traditional leather and working with brands like BESTSELLER and PVH Corp.
