Colouration & Washing

Application:

Raw Material:

 Cellulosics

 Blends

Construction:

 Knits

  Wovens

Replacement for:

Conventional hot wash-off process in reactive dyeing (incl. soaping)

Livinguard +DYE SC is a cationic aftertreatment for reactive-dyed cellulosics, silk and blends. It bonds permanently to fibres and uses positive charge to bind unfixed dye, replacing high-temperature rinsing, soaping and fixing steps with a shorter, largely room-temperature process. This cuts water, thermal energy and effluent load, fits existing equipment and recipes, and frees mill capacity without capital investment.

Results

Key Findings:

  • Cost savings are projected at roughly 20% of total dyeing costs for darker shades and 10% for medium. Higher shade intensity reduces the needed dye concentration, which boosts both chemical and cost performance, however, overall cost savings depend on post-washing sequence used.
  • Showcased 23% reduction in batch time, releasing capacity from existing assets without additional equipment investment.
  • Both cooling water usage and heat discharge to cooling water were entirely eliminated, while average steam flow rates decreased by 84% to relieve boiler demand without altering peak steam requirements.
  • Lower water and chemical usage minimises hydraulic and chemical demand on the ETP, consequently reducing energy consumption and the carbon footprint of effluent treatment.

Performance:

  • Wash and rub fastness matched conventional standards across all four shades in lab trials. The trials recorded a 7–10% increase in shade depth and a change in tone after treatment; shade matching must therefore be completed at the lab stage before bulk lot.
  • No noticeable inconsistencies across the full width of the fabric, from the center to the selvedge, and no variations or degradation in fabric strength were observed.
  • Non-hazardous and user-friendly in application and no special handling or safety precautions are required. Certifications: Bluesign approved, GOTS certified, Oeko-Tex, REACH, and ZDHC Level 3.

Step:

Colouration

Application:

Raw Material:

 Cellulosics

 Wool

 Synthetics

 Recycled and blended fibres

Replacement for:

 Yarn & top dyeing

Indigo and sulphur rope and slasher dyeing

QuantumCOLOUR™ is a continuous yarn colouration technology that applies pigment and binder directly to greige yarn on a purpose-built line, without scouring, bleaching, pre-treatment or a conventional dye bath. The yarn passes through a wetting bath and room-temperature diffusion chambers, then is dried and cured, producing zero liquid effluent and a much shorter cycle.

Results

Key Findings:

  • Since the Chinese facility operated on a demo scale, its electricity consumption is not yet optimised; these values are projected to decline by 1.5–2x at full operational scale.
  • Chemical use was reduced by 24% and chemical costs by 79%.
  • Closed-chamber design eliminates dye baths, washing, and rinsing steps, resulting in zero wastewater discharge and reduced ETP/ZLD load associated with treating dyeing effluent.
  • While savings remain broadly uniform across different shades, overall cost savings vary based on shade depth and specific pigment/binder formulations.
  • Commercial line is scale-ready with capacities of 26,000–96,000 kg/month per machine.

Performance:

  • Onsite testing confirmed that QuantumCOLOUR-dyed yarn meets standard rubbing fastness requirements, aligning with previous third-party validations.
  • Verifying wash/rub fastness and shade uniformity across batches is critical during scaling because the binder and pigment fix directly onto the yarn without a wet bath.
  • The process is best suited for light and medium shades, as very dark colors are harder to achieve due to penetration dynamics.

Results

Key Findings:

  • Salt-free dyeing processes that significantly reduce water, and chemical use.
  • Pairing Imogo’s technology with a continuous washing process (CPB) shows higher savings.
  • If powered by renewable energy, production can be further decarbonised.
  • Operational costs are lower compared to an exhaust dyeing machine.
  • Drastically reduces dye consumption, utilising as little as 0.7 liters per kilogram of fabric compared to 5–15 liters in traditional methods, while conserving water through low pickup requirements and efficient overspray recirculation.
  • Low liquor ratio and cold fixation methods, reducing energy consumption and auxiliary chemical needs.
  • Can dye textured fabrics like velour, fleece, and terry, which are challenging to process using conventional CPB methods

Performance: Comparable to conventional process in overall colour fastness results. Borderline acceptance of wet rubbing.

 PDPS dyeing for polyester

Location: Feilu textiles, XINXIANG CITY, China

Scope:

Colouration (printing) including pretreatment, curing, washing and drying

Scope

Results

Key Findings:

  • If powered by renewable energy, production can be decarbonised to an extent but effort should be put to reduce the steam and natural gas consumption of the process itself.
  • This technology offers significant time savings, especially when factoring in machine cleaning and colour changeover steps required in the conventional processes it replaces
  • High electricity and steam demand, primarily due to pretreatment and fixation steps, which are not mandatory but contribute to the overall process.
  • Best suited for fabrics between 80–250 gsm; lighter and heavier fabrics face operational or cost limitations. Adoption of the technology requires building a new facility (JV), limiting its flexibility and scalability.

Performance: Great quality, colour fastness and reproducibility. Demonstrated excellent colour fastness across all parameters, even after 20 washes. Bursting strength remains unchanged with ultrasonic treatment, though other treatments increased strength due to fabric reorientation; ultrasonic treatment significantly reduces extractable matter.
