Key Findings:
- Dye dosing is limited to 6 L/min per nozzle, restricting machine speed based on fabric GLM and reducing capacity.
- High dye viscosity or concentration can affect application consistency.
- The dyeing process is fully electric, which has resulted in the near-total elimination of steam and thermal energy consumption for this part of the operation.
- Core dyeing technology saves >90% water, but overall savings drop when pre- and post-treatments are included.
- Piezoelectric nozzles need regular cleaning, creating maintenance needs, while the machine already has a significant CAPEX.
Performance:
- Good colour consistency and reproducibility for the testes shade (±2% strength variation, ΔE = 0.14)
- Up to 4% variation across fabric width (right–left, centre–selvedge) indicates minor non-uniform application.
- Fastness results (rubbing, water, perspiration, DMF) rated good to excellent, meeting standard quality requirements.
- Trials were run with black shades, though performance may vary with more difficult colours like grey or turquoise.
